MJ Examiner Cannabis Testing: Potency Re-Test and Moisture

Conditional potency re-tests have been approved following a review by the MJ Examiner.

It was brought to the attention of the MJ Examiner that when quality assurance samples fail for moisture/water activity and are subsequently dried for the retest, potency is affected.

Effective immediately, labs may also retest potency when retesting a sample that failed for moisture and water activity.

Please note that standalone potency retests will still generally not be authorized per WAC 314-55-102(4)(b).

Hey guys, can you tell me, is potency calculated on oven dry moisture , or ‘as received’ moisture? If it’s ‘as received’ moisture, I can see, given the same mass of extractive, the drier the sample we bring in, the higher the potency

Hi Bernie, thanks for your question. I can tell you that we test samples in “as received” condition per WSLCB rules. I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to contact us directly anytime at 360-352-8688 or tnwlab@outlook.com.
